Container painting: 3 of the best paint jobs to date

    Paints used for container painting

Shipping containers are a big blank canvas.

Made from corten steel, they can be re-painted time and time again, without affecting their structural integrity or durability. And they’re now frequently used by contemporary artists, to create installations for art festivals, exhibitions and events all around the globe.

Container painting is one of the additional services that we offer, here at Gap Containers. Which is why we’re always particularly fascinated by these impressive ‘container’ masterpieces. Here we highlight some of the best from over the years.

    1. North West Walls

    Example of container street art

Located at the site of Rock Werchter, an annual music festival in Belgium, North West Walls are an assortment of stacked shipping containers, painted by international graffiti artists.

It’s a permanent installation that’s updated every 12 months with different paintings. But our favourite collection is still the first year, way back in 2014.

The artist set the bar high, with colourful, richly-detailed and imaginative images – that appeared to come to life on the large-scale canvases. It was a shining example of container street art at its best and gave people a rare opportunity to see what can be achieved with a few second-hand steel boxes.

    2. Containbow

    Shipping container painting art installation

Commissioned by the City of Fremantle Public Art Collection, #containbow can be found in Perth Australia and is the work of a local artist – Marcus Canning. It was designed to be an instant icon, garnering worldwide interest as a new tourist attraction. And it’s fair to say, it was successful!

The installation is made from nine shipping containers, which have been boldly re-painted in the colours of the rainbow and joined in the shape of a 10-metre high arch. It’s a testament to how simple shipping container painting can be used to create something truly spectacular.

    3. ContainerSpace Door Art

    Example of container painting

ContainerSpace is a very similar company to Gap, based in Melbourne Australia.

Just like us, they supply used, new and refurbished shipping containers and offer a modification service – in which they can cut, weld, frame and paint any container to any specification. And we were mightily impressed by their attempt at painted container art!

Used shipping container doors were decorated with vibrant and detailed graffiti art and put on display in their site garden space. Here, they demonstrate the skill and talent of their in-house painters and are a fantastic advert for customers who call by.

    Container painting at Gap Containers

Here at Gap, we’re definitely not inspiring graffiti artists.

We couldn’t produce anything as extraordinary as the container paintings listed above and, unfortunately, you won’t find any street art container doors at our main site in Merseyside. However, we can give your shipping container a new lease of life.

We currently offer three professional container painting services, including a standard repaint, factory finish and repainting with re-decal. Containers can be painted in any colour from the RAL colour chart. Which means, you can choose from over 200 shades. And upon request, we can easily add company logos and other decals to the exterior design.

Container painting service at Gap Containers

Container painting certainly isn’t essential. As the container itself is made from corten steel, and specially treated to prevent corrosion, any rust is superficial – and it’s strong and durable enough to last for several decades without cracking open a single tin of paint.

However, it is a great way to improve the cosmetic appearance of your container and add branding.

If you’re interested and would like to find out more about our shipping container painting service, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re always on hand and happy to help. Simply give us a call on 0870 240 9405 to speak to a member of the team and discuss your container painting requirements. Or send an email to sales@gapcontainers.co.uk and we’ll get back to you.
